Introduction

Bahass foundation started operation in the year 2004 as a voluntary community group in the Wa municipality to assist improve the lives of people living with mental illness on the streets of the upper west region without families. The organization had formal and legal registration as a nongovernmental organization in the year 2010.

Founded by Mr. Illiasu Baba Yussif a herbal medicine practitioner, out of the need to serve mentally ill people living on the streets ignored, without families, unfed, unclothed, untreated in the Wa municipality. Currently, the organization serves about seventy-five 75 mentally ill people in the WA municipality, of which 57 are living on the streets, 18 living with their families and 8 out of the 57 mentally ill living with HIV/AIDS.

Bahass foundation now engages in several projects including creating awareness on mental health (drug abuse), HIV/AIDS, livelihood empowerment through VSLA (Village Saving and Loans Associations in agriculture) in three other districts in the upper west region.

He is a distinguished philanthropist and a humanitarian work who is passionate about mental health.

For close to two decades, he has founded the Bahass Foundation and have been leading the charge in mental health care; feeding and meeting medicals bills, clothing the terminally ill and now focus in building a multi- purpose mental home for rehabilitation, counselling, treatment and admission in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.

Mr. Eliasu Baba Yussif and the Bahass Foundation have received several awards and honours; Zain touching live, NYA award, and Joy news impacts markers award. Others include; Ciltra even, AAG, Echo Sound, and Siveco.
Tahiru Lukman

Tahiru Lukman

Consultant
Tahiru Lukman is an astute social scientist with a strong background in participatory research methods and community mobilization and project interventions. Has twelve (12) years of experience in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) intervention- training, facilitation and evaluation of WASH project.

He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ideapath Consult; a firm which is providing consultancy services in the area of grant proposal writing, WASH, Data Collection and Analysis, capacity building and training. He is a consultant to the Bahass Foundation.
Osman Haruna

Osman Haruna

Finance Manager
He is a passionate and dedicated personality who is very keen towards societal development and is open to all opportunities and matters relating to children, women and helping the vulnerable in the society to realize their full potentials.

He is a strong believer in destiny and with a conviction that very single soul in this world has a purpose and therefore need strong empowerment, motivation and inclusiveness to achieve this important aim. Currently, he is the Administrative/ Finance Manager of Bahass Foundation.

Program Manager
Maxwell Besegnia Maakuu is the Bahass Foundation's Program Manager. He can manage his time effectively to be highly productive. He has good interpersonal relationships with others. Not only is he a good team player in terms of establishing an environment conducive to the fulfillment of organizational goals, but he also has the ability to inspire and motivate other team members to succeed.

He is self-motivated to tackle new difficulties. He learns and grows alongside the individuals he works with. Again, he is creative and imaginative, with the ability to successfully organize, implement, monitor, coordinate, and evaluate tasks.

Volunteer- Project Officer
Lilian Naalu-ib (Miss) is a social science student pursuing BSs Development Management at the Siemon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS).

She has been volunteering at the Bahass Foundation for over a decade. She is well organized young lady who has the passion to volunteer, dedication service and the desire to support good will course. Her work ethics as a Volunteer- Project Officer at the Bahass Foundation have led to a remarkable contribution in the organizations work in bathing, feeding and care for the terminally ill. Lilian Naalu-ib (Miss) remain committed with the Bahass Foundation and have built families in the organization.
